A helping hand

Today I realized that Brandt can lift Alivia out of the crib all by himself.  This afternoon while I was doing something in the kitchen I heard running coming down the hallway, sure enough I turn around and there is Alivia.

Here are my 1st thoughts........

1. I put you in your crib right?
2. Did you climb out yourself?
3. You are suppose to be sleeping...
4. Where is Brandt? Did he get you out?

Well, as I said, it was my thought number 4.  So I asked Brandt how he got her out and why and he said "I'm big and strong now, I'm a big boy."  I said "Wow, I guess you are, but she needs to be sleeping!"  I then went on to tell him how important it was to ask Mommy next time if he can get Alivia out considering he could hurt her while doing it, or if he happens to do it sometime when he first gets up in the morning before he comes and gets me. Could you imagine what they would do if I was still sleeping if he got her out himself without me knowing it? YIKES, we won't go there, although I am sure I would eventually hear them.
(I hope, lol)

Anyways.. I made Brandt show me how he does it.......

Do you see how easy it would be to hurt her?
(it's better she's not looking, lol)

Alivia didn't complain at all when he did this, she just wanted "a helping hand"!  It was so cute to watch how excited she was that her brother, Brandt could get her out to play with him.

Brandt is such a good big brother to her.  Do they fight? Of course they do, but when it comes down to it he will always stick up for her and be the big brother looking out for her.  I have an older brother too, Ryan, and he looked out for me and we still have a close relationship now(mainly he comes over to eat and see the kids, but yeah we are close, I think, ha ha).  I hope Brandt and Alivia still rely on each other when they are older because everybody needs a "helping hand."

Till next time.......

Flashback

Today I was talking to Brett's Grandma Vicki on the phone (she's really my Grandma more, ha) and I don't know how it got started but I was telling her about the walkie talkies my Dad and Mom used to have to communicate while my Dad was farming.  No cell phones were used, just walkie talkies (crazy right?) so then I got to thinking this would be a GREAT blog to write about.... everything that I grew up with in the 90's.  You will be able to see in the pictures how times have changed even since I was young.
( I am really not that old (28) so this just blows me away and how things are so much different now!)

Here is the 90's.......

One of my favorite shows, it never gets old

My friends and I each had one of these
(I remember getting in trouble with mine in class, oops)

You can still get these, Brandt got one the other day
(fun for kids and adults)

Another favorite show of mine that never gets old

LOVED these.. I made my Mom buy them for me, it made her sick to look at them(ha ha)

This is so true for my kids

I believe my friends and I had these(snap on bracelets)

I never had a phone like this, but I do remember them

I had these exact ones
( I didn't get my ears pierced till I was 14)

Anybody remember TGIF series on Friday nights?
(this show was on that, I really liked it)

Flavored Pop Chapstick
(I remember getting these for Christmas)

Nintendo(original).. my FAVE.. I used to play this about every night

Not sure if you can still get these?

My brother had this Teddy

I didn't have a cell phone quite this big but it was a decent size with just as big of an antenna on it (lol)

My friends and I loved this group, we used to blare the song "No Scrubs"

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
(I liked this show too)

Yep, I had a chair like this, it was pink:)

Left side(me) and Right side(now)
My, how times have changed!

Here is the walkie talkies.. My Mom used to have to say our telephone number followed by do you have a copy? When they were done with the conversation they would say "Ten Four".  I used to beg my Mom to talk, it was fun!

Overall I would say that we have it a lot easier with the technology we have today.  However, I would still want to go back to the 90's, I just loved all the things the 90's had to offer.

I also think it would be fun to go to the 50's and hang out in the older diners they had, drinking sodas while listening to my favorite oldies, that would be fun, maybe just for a week, then I would want to come back to our luxury of technology(ha ha).

Do you ever wish you could jump in a time machine and go back to the year you grew up in, or any other year?

Till next time.......

Snow Day

Today the kids and I went outside and played in the snow.  Well, the weather crews were wrong, we didn't get as much as snow as they predicted, but we still got enough to play in.  I am guessing we got about 4 inches or so, you can be the guess of it by the pictures:)

Here is pictures of our "FUN" snow day today.......

My little marshmallows
(this was Alivia's first time going out and playing in the snow, since it was warmer than usual out)

Ready to take off on the sled
(this was a great workout for me)

Had to go check on the cows
(the cows were giving the kids the good ole' stare down)

Bella, our dog, enjoyed being outside with us

I made a snowman for the kids

I thought Brandt was going to help me with the snowman but he lost interest real fast(imagine that) so I ended up making a baby one since he didn't want to help!

Alivia didn't know what to think of the snow, she didn't really want to walk in it so she just sat on the sled(lol)

Playing on the piles of snow

Uncle Ryan helped build a ramp to sled down

I think he had just as fun as Brandt (wink)

Here comes Brandt

He had so much fun!

And here is another snowman we built
(with the help of a skid loader, he he)
It's great to live on the farm!

Pretty impressive huh? We call this the"Redneck Snowman"
Screws for eyes, nose, ears and a broom for the mustache, yep that's how we roll

Even though I always say I would rather be on a beach than in Iowa with this snow, I must say today I had a blast playing in the snow with the kids!  Hope you all got to enjoy your day as well.

Till next time......

Flu and Winter Storm Coming

Yesterday I ended up getting a case of the flu. Yuck, I didn't want this at all.  I have been just laying around trying to get better and of course having to still take care of the kids.  It is not easy being sick and having 2 very active kids at the same time, I'm sure all of you Mom's can relate?  So, with that I am hoping I am on the mend of this and will feel much better tomorrow.

Tonight we are also waiting for the "BIG" snowstorm we are suppose to get.  The weather crews have predicted we are to get around 6-8 inches of snow, so far not much has happened, so we will see in the morning.  I am not a huge fan of snow but if we are going to get it, I prefer not to get much.  I remember when I was younger we used to have "HUGE" snowstorms.  I will never forget the one storm we had was pretty big that I could get on the roof of our house from a snow drift, crazy huh? It will be interesting to see how much we get, and if we get a lot I might be blogging about that tomorrow:)

Here are a few pictures of snow I found....

Isn't the snow on the trees here beautiful?

I like this picture, the way the light captures the snow is pretty

Wherever you might be tonight, in the cold winter waiting out a storm or on a warm beach enjoying the sand(which I would rather be) I hope you all have a good night and stay safe(and warm if you are in a cold climate like us tonight).

Till next time......
